Let's start with a quick look at how the Instagram algorithm works, so you can use it to your advantage.
Even though the Instagram algorithm is often considered fancy and complicated, the truth is, it’s pretty straightforward.
If your account isn’t growing as fast, or you aren’t getting the reach you expected, it’s usually because the algorithm is having a hard time doing its job.
But don’t worry, because once you know what the algorithm is looking for, you can simply follow the rest of the tips that I’m going to give you in order to make the algorithm work for you.
An algorithm only has two jobs:
- To find content that people enjoy.
- To show them as much of that content
So they continue to stay on the platform.
So, the “secret” here is to help the algorithm by being clear on
- Who your account is for
- Optimizing your content for your audience.
And to do so, the best thing you can do is
“Optimize your bio”
If you want to grow your Instagram account, then you need to give people a reason to follow you, and your bio is the perfect place for that.
Firstly, make sure your name is clear, but along with that, also include a relevant title or keyword to help people understand what you do.
Then use the first line to describe what you think of this as a good opportunity to show your USP.
Use the second line to describe why you’re worth following. If you have any social proof, you can put it here too.
Or you can also give another strong reason to them, like daily tips on XYZ or content designed to help you ABC,
And the third line can be a call to action to tell people what they shall do next, with a link that sends them to take the next step in your marketing funnel.
Another effective way to further deepen your Instagram marketing funnel is by putting an easy win in the story highlights, as they are the most accessible place to showcase your wins.
You must aim for at least 3-4 story highlights to build enough credibility to drive traffic.
Now, I’ll share what kinds of content work best on the platform right now, along with what’s the best time to post in order to make sure that your content gets the highest engagement.
When it comes to what kinds of content to post, everyone might tell you that you need to post reels for growth,
And while that is partially true, reels do give a growth to your brand, but the actual way to consistent and predictable growth is to find the style and content format that works for you.
And to find that, the only thing you can do is to post different content types consistently, see what works for you, and double down on it, which can range anywhere from 3-7 reels a week.
The best way to “train” an algorithm after fixing your bio is by engaging with similar, related accounts.
Which means further going out there, liking, commenting, and following accounts in your space.
Not only would this train the algorithm, but it would also have the added benefit of putting your account in front of their followers, which would get you even more opportunities to attract your audience.
Fan Fishing
It is the task of taking advantage of the fact that there are larger Instagram accounts that have already spent resources to build an audience of your ideal followers,
And all it takes is 10 minutes a day of engaging and commenting on relevant accounts in your niche,
The key here is to just provide genuine comments, showing yourself as an amazing value provider.
Captions:
This is one of the most underrated tools to grow your brand, because;
- You can include relevant and important keywords thoroughly.
- This would further train the algorithm about your content type and attract your ideal audience.
- They provide further context to your post, which makes having them extremely necessary.
CTA:
To make everything make sense and provide viewers with the next step on what they should do to further move in your marketing funnel, you must have a strong CTA.
CTA can either be a hard CTA, which can be to book a call, buy a product, etc..
Or can be soft CTA, which can be comments, polls, etc.
Hashtags:
And while it may seem they are off-trend now, the truth is they still work, and while they may not shoot up your post,
But they would bring decent engagement, which obviously does not harm, and here’s how to use them:
- Find 5-15 hashtags that are relevant to your account.
- Try to have a few from each category, small, big, medium.
- Put these hashtags in the actual captions as a part of the post.
